HAGER CITY, WI – Following demonstrations in recent weeks, cities across Wisconsin and the nation are facing calls from protestors to defund and disband law enforcement organizations. In response, Congressional candidate Derrick Van Orden released the following statement:

“It has been heartening to see the peaceful demonstrations taking place throughout Wisconsin’s 3rd District recently. The people are making their voices heard, as this is their God-given right.

“However, to capitulate to a vocal subset of these protestors and call to defund our law enforcement is a mistake that will enable a continuation of the looting and rioting we’ve seen across the country. We must invest in resources for officers to prevent the loss of innocent life, not take funding away from those who put their lives on the line to uphold the laws of our nation.

“We can abhor the actions of those officers responsible for the death of innocent lives while supporting the improvement of training for our officers to make things better. Defunding our police will make an existing problem worse, and our nation can’t afford that right now.”
