This week, Derrick Van Orden rolled out endorsements that make it clear he is law enforcement’s overwhelming choice for Congress in 2022. Derrick received endorsements from 15 Sheriffs across Wisconsin’s 3rd district, the Milwaukee Police Association, and the Wisconsin Fraternal Order of Police this week making it clear: he is the candidate law enforcement are supporting in November.
Take a look at some of the coverage from yesterday’s press conference with the Fraternal Order of Police:
WKBT: Wisconsin Fraternal Order of Police endorses Derrick Van Orden
The Fraternal Order says it supports Van Orden because of his commitment to law enforcement.
Van Orden says there are ways for the federal government to help local officers.
“The federal government needs to be cheerleaders for the police department. They need to come out and say they’re supportive of police officers,” said Van Orden. “When they tried to pass the Justice for George Floyd Act, Section 102 removed qualified immunity for police officers. They need to make sure that a bill like that … is never brought up in congress again. It’s unconscionable.”
Van Orden says he wants more funding for police, as well as mental health and addiction treatment facilities throughout the state.
WXOW: Van Orden receives endorsement from Fraternal Order of Police
The Wisconsin State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police officially announced their endorsement. According to the organization’s President Ryan Windorf, Van Orden best understands the complex issues facing law enforcement.
In response, Van Orden began by saying how humbled he was to receive the endorsement.
“I stand with these men and women because they protect our families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year,” Van Orden said.
